How To Choose The Best Professional Lash Extension Glue - eslashes

Professional eyelash extension glue is one of the most important products needed to apply eyelash extensions. That’s why it’s so important to choose the best lash extension glue.

What is the best glue to use for eyelash extensions?

Selecting the best lash adhesive is all about choosing the one that is right for you, and your environment.  Since it’s not a “one size fits all” scenario, we’ll go over everything you need to know to choose the best lash glue in this article.

Lash Glue Drying Time

When selecting a lash glue, you’ll notice they come in a variety of drying times. Some lash glues will take 3-4 seconds to dry while others will take only half a second. The glue dry time should match your lashing speed.

If for example, it takes you 2 seconds from the time you dip an extension in glue to the time it is perfectly placed on the natural lash, you’ll want to use a glue with a dry time that is around 2 seconds.

Using glue with a dry time that is too slow for you:

  • Causes stickies
  • Isn’t dried by the time you let go
  • Lashes will become glued together
  • This causes pain and discomfort if not fixed
  • Creates extra work for you, removing stickies

Using glue with a dry time that is too fast for you:

  • Causes poor retention
  • The glue dries mostly to the extension before it reaches the natural lash
  • Causes a weak bond between the extension and NL
  • Causes a brittle bond, lashes pop off prematurely

You can see why it’s so important to choose a lash glue that matches your work speed. If you aren’t sure what speed you are lashing at, try timing yourself. See exactly how long it takes to dip the lash in glue, apply it and position it. The timing may surprise you!

Temperature and Humidity in your lash room or lash studio

The next thing to check is the temperature and humidity. Each lash glue has a temp and humidity it works best in. Pick out a glue that matches the average in your lash studio. Because temperature and humidity are always changing, try to control these two as much as possible. Adjust the temperature with heat or AC, and get a humidifier or de-humidifer to adjust the humidity.

What color of eyelash glue is best?

There are two common colors for eyelash extension glue.

  • Black eyelash extension glue: This is the most popular and widely used lash glue. Since most lash extensions are black, this blends in seamlessly with the extensions.
  • Clear eyelash glue: This one is commonly used with colored lash extensions, or on client's that are allergic to black pigment. Clear glue is not suitable for client's with allergies to the other ingredients in lash glue. It typically has the same ingredients as black lash glue, minus the carbon black.

How do you know if eyelash glue is good?

Check the ingredients

Always check the ingredients before purchasing a lash glue. The longer the list of ingredients, the more chance there are unnecessary ingredients that can be irritants. Look for a list of short ingredients that doesn’t have latex, formaldehyde or petrochemicals.

Check the expiry date

Unopened lash extension glue typically lasts up to 6 months. But once the lash glue has been opened, it has a shelf life of only about 30 days.

Always write down the date you purchased the eyelash glue so you know when it should be tossed. If you take care of your opened adhesive by storing it properly in a cool, dry place and shaking it before every use, you can increase its lifespan to 6 months. The eyelash glue application process is much easier when it's fresh.
