Easy Fan vs. Handmade Volume Lashes - eslashes

These days it seems there are so many different ways to create volume fans. There are premade fans, easy fans, fast fans and the good old-fashioned handmade volume fan. Knowing the difference between them can help you decide which one is right for you.

Easy Fan Lashes

Easy fan volume lashes help reduce time during a custom volume set. They are especially helpful when applied using Russian Volume and Mega Volume techniques. It can be frustrating to quickly create volume lashes by hand, especially as a new lash tech. Easy fan lashes have a unique sticky base that prevents fans from separating and falling apart after pickup. They have comparable retention to classic lashes and can be applied in a similar way. It's important to note that these are not suitable for the wrap-around volume technique.

Application Techniques for Easy Fan Lashes

There are two techniques used to create attention-grabbing fans with easy fan lashes: the Shimmy Method and the Sticky Strip Method. Both help you create tons of volume quickly — once you master the application techniques.

Shimmy Technique

This fanning technique involves using only tweezers to create lash bloom.

  • Use a volume tweezer to grab the desired number of lashes.
  • Pinch or shimmy the tweezer to open them into a fan.
  • Pick up off the lash strip, dip in glue and apply.

Practice will help you find the sweet spot for lifting. Shimmy too high and you'll end up closing the fans.

Sticky Strip Technique

This technique uses a sticky strip to help you create the bloom, making it a better choice for beginners.

  • Grab the desired number of lashes.
  • Pull them off the strip towards yourself.
  • Place the base of the lashes onto the sticky portion of the strip.
  • Using the back of your closed volume lash tweezer, gently move the bottom of the fan left to right until it fans out.
  • Pick up off the lash strip, dip in glue and apply.

Handmade Volume Lashes

Volume lashes are perfect for lash techs looking to achieve the wrap-around technique. Wrapping the natural lash is done by using small micro-movements with your tweezers to get the fan to wrap around the natural lash. Because there are multiple contact points on the natural lash, handmade volume lashes provide the best retention. Creating volume fans by hand can be difficult and time-consuming — it is definitely a skill that needs a lot of practice to master. 0.03 Volume Lashes are another excellent choice for this technique, especially for clients with thinner lashes.

Many lash artists will mix multiple types of lash extensions. Combining easy fan lashes or premade lashes with handmade volume lashes helps save time and still creates the lush and glamorous look your clients want.
