If you're a lash tech already, you know it's all in the tiny details when it comes to application. And those details can make or break lash retention. Watch out for these three common lash tech mistakes to avoid poor lash retention.
There's a fine line between too much and too little lash glue. Too much adhesive can cause damage to the natural lashes, create stickies and is an all-around uncomfortable experience for the client. But if you use too little glue, the lashes won't last.
Lifted bases occur when the base of the lash extension is not perfectly in line with the natural lash. This happens most often when using a lash with a stronger curl, such as a D curl. It can be challenging to see lifted bases at first glance, but upon closer inspection, you can see a small gap between the lash extension and the natural lash.
Lifted bases leave just enough room for dirt and oils to become trapped in the gap, causing the lash to pop off early. They can also get caught in the mascara wand or lash spoolie and pull off during lash combing.Avoid this common lash tech mistake by adjusting the angle of your wrist and hand as you place the natural lash to avoid the gap. Practicing on a mannequin head with training lashes is a great way to master this technique. Always closely inspect your work to ensure that the application is perfect.
You can do everything right in a lash appointment, but you'll still have poor retention if the client doesn't have clean lashes. Luckily, this is one of the common lash tech mistakes that is the easiest to avoid!
Your client's lashes must be squeaky clean before each appointment, yet some clients will swear they washed their lashes right before coming in for their appointment but actually washed them hours ago. During that time, dirt, sweat and oil accumulate on the natural lashes, ready to wreak havoc on your lashing. Avoid this common lash tech mistake by setting up a lash washing station for your clients, or include a lash bath as part of your service. Use eslashes gentle lash cleanser to remove everything without burning or irritating the client's eyes.
Don't forget to use lash primer after washing for the best retention. Prime both the top of the natural lash bases and underneath for best results.
