Baby Shampoo On Lash Extensions? What’s The Best Lash Shampoo? - eslashes

Baby shampoo is affordable, and available in any local supermarket or drugstore. It may seem like a cheap and easy way to keep your lash extensions clean. Baby shampoo has even been recommended by lash techs in the past. Unfortunately, baby shampoo should not be used in replacement of a professional lash shampoo to clean eyelash extensions, and here’s why:

  1. The sulfates in baby shampoo can actually break down the glue bond over time. Daily use of baby shampoo on lash extension can actually cause lash extensions to pop off prematurely. Instead of increasing retention, it can actually make retention worse.
  1. Baby shampoo contains added fragrance and glycerin. Scented cleansers should not be used on the delicate eye area as they can cause irritation or even allergies. Glycerin or other oils can also break down the lash glue over time.
  1. Baby shampoo is not designed for use on the eye area. Although many baby shampoos have a “tear free” formula, this does not mean they are designed for use around the eye area. Baby shampoo is designed to wash baby’s hair, not to cleanse eyelashes. Because it is not designed to wash the eye area, it does not properly clean in between the lash extensions. If lash extensions are not properly washed, it can lead to eye infections or even lash mites along the lash line.

Now you may be wondering: “what soap can I use to wash my eyelash extensions?”

What’s the best lash shampoo?

Choose a lash cleanser or a lash shampoo that is sold by a reputable lash company. Be sure that it is a cleanser specifically designed for cleaning eyelash extensions.

Here are a few things to look for in a lash cleanser:

  • oil-free
  • paraben free
  • sulfate-free
  • cruelty-free
  • no added fragrance or perfume
  • perfect for all skin types including sensitive skin

A proper lash cleanser will actually help to improve retention, so your lash extensions will lash even longer! Use a lash safe shampoo with a cleansing brush and wash lashes daily. This will help keep those precious peepers healthy and safe.

How To Clean Lash Extensions With Professional Lash Cleanser

Here is how to properly clean your professional lash extensions.

  1. Wet the lashes using a little squirt bottle. Hold a clean towel under your eye.
  2. Apply 1-2 pumps of a gentle lash cleanser (not baby shampoo!)
  3. Use a lash cleansing brush or clean makeup brush to clean between the lash extensions.
  4. Gently work in a downwards motion to clean the lashes and eye area.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with water using your squirt bottle.
  6. Pat lashes dry with a clean towel, and dry lashes with a fan or dryer on COOL air (❌ no hot air)
  7. Comb and fluff lashes up using a clean mascara wand. And you’re done! Keeping lashes clean helps lashes last longer and helps prevent eye infections, keeping lashes fresh and healthy!
